The latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A has an update on WWE piping in crowd noise audio for broadcasts. Sean Ross Sapp hasn’t noticed it as much of late. He also reports that initially, Netflix did not want WWE to pipe in crowd noise when Monday Night Raw debuted on the streamer earlier in January.
However, when WWE does opt to pipe in crowd noise, it’s said to be very noticeable on TV, such as during the Thunderdome Era during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is something WWE decided to retain later on.
Sapp also explained that WWE would pipe in crowd audio over the Dominik Mysterio promos, something he thinks those segments didn’t need because his promos received such loud reactions from the fans at the arenas. Sapp went on to say that piping in additional crowd noise in those segments sounded bad on TV.
Sapp adds that WWE typically pipes in the audio over the broadcast, and it’s usually added when it isn’t needed. Also, it’s said that WWE would lay in a blanket crowd noise over all of its matches that were broadcast, which Sapp believes is a good idea and thinks that most wrestling companies should adopt the practice.
