Former UFC Heavyweight Champion and WWE alumnus Cain Velasquez is out on parole after spending nearly a year in prison for attempted murder charges. As previously reported, Velasquez pleaded no contest in August of 2024 on the charges in relation to a shooting that took place in February of 2022.

Velasquez’ Instagram account noted that he was scheduled to be released today. The five-year sentence that he received in March of last year included three and a half years of time served. He had been initially eligible for parole in March, but POST Wrestling reported that it was changed to February back in December of last year.

Velasquez noted in the Instagram post that he was “exploring the idea of hosting a one-day Holotropic Breathing Seminar in the San Jose area.” He noted that breathwork has been “powerful tool for me—physically, mentally, and spiritually—and I’d like to share it with others in a focused, intentional setting.”

Velasquez was arrested in February of 2022 after he engaged in a car chase and shot at a man who was accused of molesting his son at a daycare. The high-speed chase saw him follow a car that that contained the accused sex offender, his stepfather, and mother. Velasquez rammed his own vehicle into the car and fired multiple shots, but missed the man and instead hit the stepfather. He was charged with attempted murder and the gun charges shortly after.

The former UFC champion had a six-month run in WWE that included a match against Brock Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel 2019. He suffered a knee injury and was released as part of the company’s April 2020 pandemic cuts.
