Chelsea Green credits fans for her coronation as the inaugural Women’s United States Champion.

During the winter of 2024, WWE introduced the women’s version of the Intercontinental and the United States Championships. Green went on to defeat Michin in the tournament final at Saturday Night’s Main Event in December of that year to become the first-ever Women’s US Champion.

During a recent appearance on Spotlight, Chelsea Green said that overwhelming fan support forced WWE to crown her as the inaugural Women’s United States Champion. Green hailed it as her legacy-defining moment.

Here’s what she said:

“I won it because the fans got so behind me that they forced WWE to make that decision. Like truly. I felt like I didn’t just win it for myself; I won it for all the people there were cheering me. The moment that I went to hit my finisher in the ring, like, you can see it, feel it, and hear it if you go back and watch those clips.

“Now, because they pushed so hard for me and we collectively did it, that can never be erased from the history books. Until the day that I die, I will always remain the first-ever United States Women’s Champion, and I love that. When I think about the packages that you see on TV for the titles, they have to include me because I was the first.

“It’s an exciting moment for me in my career because I knew there were going to be times when I might win championships and this and that, but you always think, like, what are you going to be remembered for? But that’s one thing that I know I will be remembered for.”

Chelsea is a two-time Women’s US Champion. The title is currently in the possession of her ally, Tiffany Stratton, who defeated Giulia for the gold on the SmackDown after WrestleMania 42. Green is set to compete in a Fatal Five-Way Ladder Match for the Interim Women’s Championship at SummerSlam next weekend. She secured her spot by defeating Kiana James on last night’s SmackDown.
