Chelsea Green Says Mick Foley Reached Out After Interim Women’s Title Win

Chelsea Green received a ton of congratulations after she won the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam, including from Mick Foley. Green won the title at night two of SummerSlam in a five-woman ladder match. She defeated Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, and Lash Legend to claim the title.

The underdog win led to a huge outpouring online, and Green spoke with Complex Graps about the reaction to her win. She noted that she received 278 text messages and countless DMs, and made sure to answer every text. She also recalled how Mick Foley and other legends told her they cried over the moment, and talked about people comparing the fan-driven nature of her rise to those like Kofi Kingston and Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE). On Her Rise Being Fan-Driven Like Danielson’s:

“So, I didn’t until people started saying that to me after Unreal season one came out. I had no [idea]. I meab, I would be so narcissistic to be comparing myself to somebody so incredible. But of course, once the world told me that, and actually Triple H pulled me aside and told me that. And he compared me to the likes of Daniel Bryan and Kofi. I was like, Wow, what an amazing group to be put into.’ The fact that whatever comes my way is coming my way because the fans have literally strongarmed creative and the company into giving me these things? I mean, I don’t wanna downplay my hard work but at the end of the day, they have been steering the ship for the past couple of months. And they steered it and docked it at SummerSlam in this Ladder match, winning the title. That’s so incredible to me.”

On Foley Reaching Out To Her:

“I got a text from Mick Foley the other day. Obviously, everyone knows I love Mick Foley. But, I didn’t realize how much this also meant to the old school guys. I mean like, X-Pac said he shed some tears for me, Torrie Wilson was shedding some tears. Leilani Kai, Mick Foley, like there’s all these people who I — if you asked me 12 years ago, ‘Hey, will Mick Foley and X-Pac and Leilani and Torrie and all these Hall of Famers be texting you, telling you that they were crying, sending you pictures of them crying?’ I would’ve thought you were crazy.

“But you know, my character work got me here and that’s what a lot of them did. They used their character to get over and, the fans pushed them and steered the . And now, here we are. Here we are. 2026 and Chelsea Green is your Women’s Champion.”

On How Many Messages She Had On Her Phone After the Match:

“276 messages. I don’t even want to know how many DMs I had. I went sleep. I got my steak dinner and my extra-dirty vodka martini, and I went to sleep. And I woke up, like I shot out of bed at like 4:30 in the morning from all the adrenaline. And I answered every single text message. I had to thank everyone. I had to thank everyone for caring.”
