Chelsea Green overcame the odds to become the Interim WWE Women’s Champion at SummerSlam Night Two. Those who have kept up with WWE Unreal during its run on Netflix are familiar with Chelsea’s story and her perception within the company. Some felt that Chelsea wasn’t championship material, that her role was to help the stars above her in the pecking order become even bigger stars. Chelsea’s plight was one of the most talked-about stories of WWE Unreal, as fans grew to appreciate her work & effort along with her personality.

Chelsea Green appeared on WWE Now with Sam Roberts after winning on Sunday night to talk about her road to the Championship, highlighting the involvement of WWE Unreal and how it helped fans love her.

On How WWE Unreal Pushed Her to the Top:

“Yes, yes, I have thought that since the minute that Season 1 Episode 3 of Unreal came out. I thought ‘Oh, this is not going to be good for the office but I love it.’ Hello! I’m getting all this love for just being me, for doing nothing out of the ordinary, for literally just showing up to work, doing my job, and going home. Unfortunately, for the office, that aired, everyone loved it, and now here we are three seasons later. I mean, Unreal Season 3 just came out, and it reignited that passion from the fans like I know it did. I know it did. I felt it. I have felt it all weekend, I have felt it all year, I felt it for three years. I really felt it when I won the US Title, but it has exploded since then. Exploded. And I thank Michael Hayes for that.”

On How She Hasn’t Changed:

“I have stayed exactly the same person, and somehow we’ve gone on this epic journey where now they like it. When literally not even six months ago not only did they hate it, but I was the most annoying person in the company. So that just goes to show you can’t trust Twitter.”
