Reigning Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes recently opened up about his future with the Stamford-based promotion.
The American Nightmare appeared on the All the Smoke podcast, where he discussed maintaining a work-life balance. The 40-year-old cited the example of his father, Dusty Rhodes, and revealed that his next WWE contract would be his last.
Here’s what Cody Rhodes said:
“You get to a point where there’s only so much you can… You can only go so long. And I think I know my number where I’d like to go with this. I was lucky that my dad, who I thought was the best dad ever, was out of the game. He was in it as a producer and in it as a creator, pop [sic] in here as a kind of old man wrestler every now and then, but he was out of the game. So, he was the number-one dad at every game. He coached our football team. He’s known in Cobb County as the coach more than the American Dream. That’s who he was.”
The 40-year-old continued:
“I’d like to make it by the time they hit that age that I’m not… I’m not going that often, or I can’t really walk around that much. Um, and that’s… We’re getting closer. What I’d say is the next contract I sign with WWE will probably be my last and finish my days with WWE. It’s the house that built me, and it’s the house that brought me back and put me in this wonderful, wonderful position. But yeah, I don’t know. It’s very, very hard to balance. It certainly is. When you are in it, you gotta be in it.” [55:22-56:31]
Cody returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 and has since been positioned as the face of the company. He won his first WWE Championship by beating Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 Night Two.
After a year-long reign, The American Nightmare was dethroned by John Cena at WrestleMania 41 Night Two. However, Cody managed to regain the title at SummerSlam 2025 Night Two. The former AEW TNT Champion has since retained his gold against Drew McIntyre at Wrestlepalooza and Saturday Night’s Main Event.
