Csonka’s WWN Supershow 2018 Preview
WELCOME back to column time with Larry! Today, I am going to discuss and preview the WWN Supershow 2018 event. WWN has another loaded WrestleMania weekend slate of events, and today we look at 2018 WWN Supershow, featuring a good looking card, and some high-quality guest stars coming in for the weekend. Feel free to make your picks in the comment section. Thanks for reading! It’s wrestling, we love it and will disagree. The only rules are “have a take, be respectful, and don’t be a dick.” NOTE: You’ll have to work with me a bit on these columns, as I am previewing a set of shows that are linked together and trying to sort out the likely booking and at EVOLVE 102, and go from there to try and make sense of everything the best I can.
SHINE Championship Match: LuFisto defends vs. Holidead: As part of the yearly WWN Supershow, the SHINE championship will be on the line once again. If I am being completely honest, the SHINE brand has little buzz these days, but as part of the WWN branding, they get a spot on the card. I really wish that they would go back to putting SHINE title matches on EVOLVE shows as occasional special features to help get the brand some attention. Anyway, LuFisto is the reigning champion, and I highly doubt they pull a title change here. The match will likely be solid to good but is far from highly anticipated. WINNER: LuFisto
The 6-Man Tradition Continues – Darby Allin, DJZ, & Trey Miguel vs. Austin Theory, Travis Banks, & Zachary Wentz: Many moons ago in the infancy of WrestleMania weekend becoming more than just WrestleMania, ROH brought in Dragon Gate Wrestlers for their event, and many that those guys stole the weekend. The relationship eventually ended, Dragon Gate USA became a thing for a while and the six-man tradition lived through Gabe and company in various different versions. The match is still a six-man, but this year will feature “The Stars Who Will Lead Indie Wrestling In 2018.” Allin is a WWN mainstay, DZJ has been great in EVOLVE and everywhere else while not working for Impact, Miguel is 23 and working all around the indies, Theory is the FIP Champion, Banks is the PROGRESS Champion, while Wentz recently did a tour with Dragon Gate to good reviews. The match is designed to be a wild, balls to the wall, athletic display. Basically, it will be a gloriously fast-paced spotfest, and while some think that’s a bad thing, there is always room for different kinds of matches. This should be a ton of fun, and I think that Austin Theory takes the win for his team here. WINNER: Austin Theory, Travis Banks, & Zachery Wentz
Matt Riddle vs. Will Ospreay: If things play out the way I think that they will, Matt Riddle will defeat Champion Zack Sabre Jr. at EVOLVE 102, and become the new EVOLVE Champion. On that same show, I have Ospreay defeating AR Fox so this may very well become an impromptu EVOLVE title match. It’s very much a guessing game when you have to predict these things so early and you have thee shows (EVOLVE 102 & 103) and this one that are all interlinking. Regardless of it’s for the title or not, I have high hopes for the match. These are two guys that rarely disappoint, and I feel they will deliver here. The clash of styles should be interesting, but I anticipate a 15-minute sprint, mixing Riddle’s grappling and striking against the high-octane offense of Ospreay. WINNER: Matt Riddle
Chris Dickinson & Jaka vs. WALTER & Timothy Thatcher: If Chris Dickinson & Jaka are still champions at the time of the match, this will be a title match. But I have them dropping the tiles at EVOLVE 102, as I believe that both men are primed to be moved into the EVOLVE singles ranks. They have been good champions, but I feel the EVOLVE tag scene needs freshened up and for that to happen, they have to move on. The big daddy WALTER & Timothy Thatcher are a great tag team, and the match plays into their feud with Stokley Hathaway after WALTER took Thatcher away from the Dream team, and also refused to join with him. This has some history to it, and has all the makings of a great, hard-hitting match. WINNERS: WALTER & Timothy Thatcher

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Munenori Sawa: As I wrote above, I believe that Matt Riddle will defeat Champion Zack Sabre Jr. at EVOLVE 102, and become the new EVOLVE Champion. But no matter what happens, this match will still happen on this show. Zack Sabre Jr. is having an absolutely amazing 2018 so far, and I believe that Munenori Sawa will be becoming into this match 2-0 on the week, and looking to impress. I haven’t had the chance to catch as much Munenori Sawa as I’d like heading into this, but I have the feeling that he’ll be treating his long-awaited return to EVOLVE a special one. With Sabre as his dance partner, this has the chance to be great. I have the feeling that the company will want to make the return of Sawa a really big deal, and with that being the case, I think that he picks up the win here. WINNER: Munenori Sawa
WWN Champion Keith Lee vs. Daisuke Sekimoto: RED ALERT, RED ALERT, WE HAVE AN OFFICIAL HOSS WARNING IN NEW ORLEANS; THIS WILL BE BIG LADS DOING BIG LAD THINGS. HIDE THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN, HEAD INTO YOUR STORM CELLARS, KATIE BAR THE DOOR BECAUSE PEOPLE MAY DIE IN THE WAKE OF THIS AWESOME HOSSNESS. Much like Sawa, I believe that Sekimoto will be becoming into this match 2-0 on the week. Keith Lee has been an excellent WWN Champion so far, and not only consistently delivers, but also steps up in big-time situations like this match. Sekimoto is one of the most consistent big match performers over the last few years that doesn’t get enough love. While I think there is almost no chance Lee loses the belt here, I am fascinated to see how Lee deals with an animal like Sekimoto; someone he can’t easily dominate with power and size. We could end up seeing a very different Keith Lee here, possibly even a heel Keith Lee, which I find very interesting. WINNER: WW Champion Keith Lee
