Dave Bautista Credits His Mother For Helping Him Become Durable: ‘Pretty Tough Woman’
Dave Bautista had an uphill climb in pro wrestling due to his age, and he credits his mother for making him able to endure the physical aspects. Batista is a name in Hollywood now, but of course he was part of WWE from 2000 to 2010 with a couple of returns in 2014 and 2018 to 2019.
Bautista spoke with Cale Owen for W.O.L.F. Gyms and spoke about how hard the physical recovery aspects were. He noted that he “learned to adapt” and said his mom instilled a strong work ethic in him. You can see highlights below:
On the Rigors Of Physical Recovery:
“It was really — physically it was really tough. I also — you know, I started wrestling when I was older. But that was one of the things I just learned how to make a routine. I learned how to make it work. I adapted to it. And so, that’s the one thing I can say about myself is I’ve always been a durable person. Like, I can take a physical beating. I can take a mental beating, and I can come back from that. So that is one thing that I can say about myself with confidence and pride is, I’m a pretty durable person.”
“I just learned how to adapt to it. Now I look back on it and I think, ‘How the f**k did I do that?’ Like, I don’t know how I lived through it.
On Where His Durability Comes From:
“Probably hereditary somewhat, I think. My mom is a grinder. I didn’t grow up with my dad, so I can’t really speak for how he is. But my mom had a really strong work ethic, and she was — she’s a pretty tough woman, you know? She didn’t pull any punches.
“She was very sometimes like, abrasive. But she had a strong, strong work ethic. My mom was anything but lazy. And she was constantly — she was hard on us, but it was like in a good way. To form us to be good human beings and be responsible human beings.”
