FTR battled The Young Bucks at AEW Full Gear 2020, and Dax Harwood recently reflected on the match and why he got emotional over it. Full Gear 2020 was the first AEW show following pandemic lockdown that had fans in attendance. The show took place on November 7th, 2020 at Daily’s Place. The Bucks defeated FTR to win the AEW World Tag Team Championships.

Harwood appeared on Beyond the Bell and was asked about the match. He recalled how “surreal” it was and that he got emotional hearing the crowd response at the end. You can see highlights from the discussion below:

On Having the Match With The Young Bucks:

“It was almost surreal. You think about the world five years ago, it was a whole different world, five years. It at Full Gear. This year, Full Gear on November 22nd, sold out Prudential Center. It’s going to be jam-packed. But Full Gear five years ago was the first event — I believe it was the first event that we had actually brought in fans. And we could only fill up the arena like 25%. But we had fans in the arena. And so we were so fortunate and blessed and lucky that this match could finally be [in front of people]. Because we were so afraid that we were going to have to do this match in front of nobody. But God allowed us to do this in front of people, and it was the first time that I got to cheers in a long time because the pandemic.”

“And I just remember uh going into this match, it took a lot for me to — I couldn’t wrap my mind around it and how I wanted to approach the match. Because I was putting so much pressure on myself. Because you have the Young Bucks, and you had FTR. And of a generation, the two greatest tag teams of this generation. So we had a lot of we had a lot of expectations that we had to meet.”

On Getting Emotional About the Crowd Reaction:

“I just remember that the when the finish happened, I was on the floor. And I heard the people. It was like 1,200 people. I heard them and I broke down and cried. Because I was like, ‘Man, we have missed this.’ Because what we do is for that live audience, is for the people. I don’t know if I’d be able to to go out there and kill my body if I knew that there wasn’t someone who was appreciating it. And so, it meant a lot to have that match, FTR vs. The Young Bucks five years ago.”
