Goldberg Comments on ‘Some Girl’ Asuka Surpassing His WCW Winning Streak, Thinks WWE Was Upset About Monday Night Wars

WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg has taken issue in the past with current WWE Superstar Asuka being the one to beat his past winning streak in WCW. During his original WCW run, Goldberg’s winning streak went 173-0 before losing to Kevin Nash at WCW Starrcade 1998. During a recent interview on Real Talk with Mike Burke, Burke brought up his winning streak.
During the chat, Burke pointed out Goldberg’s win streak of over 170 matches in WCW, saying, “Nobody’s ever going to beat that.” Goldberg responded, “They already did.” When Burke asked, “Who did,” Goldberg referred to Asuka as “Some girl at WWE. They did it on purpose.”
Goldberg stated on Asuka surpassing his winning streak in WWE, “Yeah. I have nothing against the girl by any means, but yeah.” The WWE Hall of Famer chalked it up to WWE still being angry over being beaten by WCW for 83 weeks during the Monday Night Wars, noting that WWE basically had a “burr in their ass” over Goldberg’s role in being part of WCW before joining WWE later on.
Goldberg explained, “The whole WWE experience was always, you know, cuz I was a part of WCW when we were kicking their ass in the Monday Night Wars. And I didn’t know what was going on at the time. I was just on one of the sides. And now one side dissolved and the other one consumed everything, and so they can treat everyone and anybody everything the way they want.”
Goldberg went on, “And I think there’s always going to be, not the stigma, but there’s always going to be the burr in their ass that I was part of a company that you know, in a very short period of time, I was the champion and we were beating them in the ratings.”
Goldberg recently wrestled his final match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event last July, losing to Gunther in a World Heavyweight Title bout. Meanwhile, Asuka’s 914-day winning streak ultimately ended at the hands of Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 34 in 2018.
