Hechicero Weighs In On Criticism Of CMLL World Title Match With Eddie Kingston

Hechicero has shared his thoughts of fan criticism of his CMLL World Title defense against Eddie Kingston. The two faced off last Friday at CMLL’s show with the World Championship on the line, and the match was not beloved by fans who criticized it online.

Hechicero spoke with Mas Lucha and talked about the match, noting that it was just a matter of them not connecting with the proper emotions of the bout. You fan see highlights below (per Fightful):

On Criticism Of the Match:

“I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t think that in this field of wrestling… We always have matches that go well, sometimes things just don’t go as we wish. I believe what happened was that we failed to connect with the emotions the audience needed as the match unfolded. It’s not about the method; it’s about the way they are presented. Often the same match against the same opponent can provoke hundreds of different reactions depending on the audience present in that venue. But on a different day, with a different crowd in another city, another state, or another country, and maybe even at the same event, in a different order, as the first, second, or third match, the result may have been completely different.

“Simply put, it was a complicated match and we didn’t succeed. Complicated because, in my opinion, we couldn’t achieve the emotional connection that the audience needed as the show developed.

On Kingston:

“Eddie Kingston has had a successful career. He is highly respected in the independent scene. He participated in the G1 in Japan. It’s not easy to be called upon by them. So we cannot question his quality. I haven’t gotten over it either. If he wants another chance, I will be ready.”
