Details On How Claudio Castagnoli Is Viewed In CMLL

Claudio Castagnoli works in both AEW and CMLL, and a new report has some notes on how the Death Riders member is viewed in the latter company. Castagnoli has been under a dual contract between AEW and CMLL since March. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that people backstage in CMLL have been very impressed with Castagnoli and his ability to perform at higher altitudes.

Meltzer noted (per Wrestling Inc) that Castagnoli “would fly in there and they would do these singles matches, and he would not get tired.” He noted that a number of Americans have issues with that in Arena Mexico, which is approaching 7,500 feet above sea level, while CMLL talent is used to wrestling in that environment.

Castagnoli won the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in November of last year and held it for 118 days before losing it on March 20th to Hechicero. He most recently competed for CMLL in the 2026 International Grand Prix and worked the entire match, which ran almost 74 minutes.
