Mike D Vecchio Confirms New Dorian Van Dux Ring Name

WWE recently trademarked the name Dorian Van Dux, and early reports had it going to Mike D Vecchio. Now Vecchio has confirmed it with a new vignette that explains exactly why he’s taking on that name.
On his X account, now renamed @DorianVanDWWE, he posted a video (not embeddable) of himself in a scene similar to the movie Bloodsport. It appears to be from the movie The Last Kumite, directly inspired by Bloodsport and partly funded by its distributors, in which Vecchio played a villain.
Bloodsport featured fellow Belgian Jean-Claude Van Damme as kickboxer Frank Dux. Dux was loosely based on a real-life Canadian-American of the same name whose stories about secret martial arts tournaments might have been too good to be true. Thus, Van Damme immortalizing a highly fictionalized version of him also bears some resemblance to the ageless Picture of Dorian Gray.
Hence, Dorian Van Dux, a tribute to Dorian Gray, Frank Dux, and Jean-Claude Van Damme all in one.
Vecchio announced his WWE signing back in September. In October, he posted an image of himself under the NXT logo. Fans on his social media immediately noted the Van Damme connection, as well as the similarity of the initials “DVD” to Rob Van Dam’s “RVD,” a.k.a. the last major superstar to reference JCVD in his gimmick.
The newly named Dorian Van Dux was ranked 180 in last year’s PWI 500. Per Fightful, it is unknown when he’ll make his NXT debut.
