Nick Aldis on Why He Thinks WWE Booked Him for a Match Against Gunther & Whether He Is Nervous

Nick Aldis comments on why he feels WWE booked him for a match with Gunther at SummerSlam 2026. Aldis will make his WWE in-ring debut in Minneapolis, Minnesota, this weekend, when he takes on former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther at SummerSlam 2026 Night One.

Aldis appeared on this week’s INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet. During the conversation, he was asked about why he thinks WWE decided to book him against The Career Killer Gunther for its second-biggest premium live event of the year. He was also asked whether he was nervous heading into the match. Here’s what Nick Aldis said:

On Why He Thinks WWE Booked Gunther vs. Nick Aldis

“I think that, and I have to tread carefully here because I certainly don’t want to ever try to speak on behalf of Triple H. But I think that maybe he looked at the landscape, looked at the possibilities, and decided, I think, there’s money in this over this guy or that guy as an opponent for Gunther. I only say that because that’s how I would look at it.”

On Whether He’s Nervous Heading Into the Match

“Sure. But I take confidence in the fact that they looked at everything, every possibility, and decided this was where the money was. I suppose I was a little perplexed at first at how casual everyone seemed to be. Hunter, Ed Koskey, Michael [Hayes]. I was waiting for the sit-down. ‘Are you sure you can do this? Are you ready?’ It never came.”
