Oba Femi Retains NXT Championship at New Year’s Evil, Leaves Title In Ring

Oba Femi held onto the NXT Championship at NXT New Year’s Evil, but left the title in the ring following his win. Femi battled TNA X-Division Champion Leon Slater in the main event of Tuesday’s special episode. The match pitted Slater’s high flying against Femi’s power offense. While Slater had the champion on the ropes a few times, it was Femi picked up the win with a Fall From Grace.
After the match, the camera went to the back where Ava was talking with the WWE EVOLVE talent about the opportunity to move up with talent having been called up to the main roster. Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, and Jordynne Grace have all moved up in the last week.
As she was giving her talk, Robert Stone ran in and asked if Ava saw what Femi had done. The camera then cut to the ring where the NXT Championship was sitting in the ring by itself. You can see highlights from the match and segment below.
WWE has not officially announced that Femi is no longer NXT Champion, but that would appear to be the case. His title reign stands at 32 days, having won it back from Ricky Saints at NXT Deadline. He has been tipped for main roster call-up “very soon.”
