A Pennsylvania man reportedly fell for a Rhea Ripley impersonation scam to the tune of over $42,000. KDKA Radio and Butler Radio reports that a 64 year-old man in East Butler, Pennysylvania fell for a scam in which a person or persons portrayed themselves as the WWE star.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, they began investigating the case in the spring. The man, who was not named, was conned into sending over online payments to the individual. State police said that the victim refused to cooperate with their investigation.
Of note, there are some reports that state the man was scammed out of $427,000, but that seems to originate from a typo in a report by by WPXI, who note that the man “lost tens of thousands” of dollars amnd describe “over $40K” in the headline but then cite the $427,000 number in the article. The other reports mentioned above, as well as others, put the number at $42,700.
The man is not the first to fall for a scam with wrestling-related connotations. In November of 2024, a 78 year-old man was cammed out of over $1 million by someone pretending to be Alexa Bliss online.
