The promoter for PRODUCE Wrestling took to social media to express his issues with the WWE ID program, believing that it “cons” talent. As noted yesterday, Marcus Mathers and Chazz “Starboy” Hall were both pulled from the independent promotion’s PRODUCE Volume 2: Taigastyle show on July 16th. PRODUCE announced the news while also noting in a separate post that “If you cancel an existing booking with PRODUCE for another independent contractor gig that isn’t a full time contract, all future bookings will be terminated.”

Fans pushed back on the way that the latter statement was made and how PRODUCE responded to fans in regard to it. Promoter Adam Abdalla took to his Twitter on Thursday morning to offer an explanation.

Abdalla wrote:

“Just a note on yesterday:

The point of my announcements was not to name and shame talent.

It was to highlight the fact they were promised the equivalent of a grant program and were conned into doing scabwork. This should be widely understood.

PRODUCE exists to serve our fanbase, but as an idea, also as an institutional critique that shines a light on practices that are designed to devalue the talent.

I’ll take 1000 bullets personally if it brings sunlight to things that will make folks think twice about screwing talent or the fans.

This will always be the tone. If you want passive viewing, youve got plenty of options.

– OC”

Abdalla also acknowledged that he should have made such responses to fans from his own personal account, stating, “it should be clear that I speak for me alone.”

WWE ID previously pulled Aaron Rourke, Veronica Haven, Sloane Jacobs, Anya Rune, Laynie Luck, and Hall from independent shows on June 20th, when they held a WWE EVOLVE taping. The reason for Mathers’ being pulled is not yet clear. It was also reported in May that WWE ID talent are barred from using their independent ring names moving forward and mush use their WWE ID ring names for all appearances.
