Taz received a shout-out during last night’s Saturday Night’s Main Event broadcast, and he took to Twitter to pay tribute to John Cena while referencing the name drop. Last night’s show featured Cena’s last match. During the show, Michael Cole mentioned his past commentary partners that he called Cena matches with. Taz was mentioned, as well as Jim Ross, Corey Graves, JBL, and Jerry Lawler.
Taz posted to Twitter after the show, writing:
“Major congrats to the man @JohnCena on an absolutely amazing career! Cena always was a super guy & amazing performer! I miss him. I have amazing memories of calling so many of Cena segments w/ my man @MichaelCole during our years on SmackDown!”
Taz began working as a commentator for WWE in 2002. He worked in that capacity until he left the company in 2009. Taz is now signed with AEW and is away from TV, as he’s recovering from shoulder replacement surgery. There is no word on when he may return to AEW commentary as of right now.
