Tony Khan Reveals Whether He Prefers Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels

For any kid who was watching wrestling in the mid to late ’90s, it was all about Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels. Both worked as heroes and as villains, were technically expert, but had slightly different philosophies about performing, and clashing personalities. Their rivalry culminated in arguably the most infamous unscripted finish of all time, and they wouldn’t bury the hatchet for real until many years later.

AEW president Tony Khan was the right age to be engroseed in their rivalry, although he often watched alone. As he told Chris Verlod on Sactown Sports, “My friends around me really started watching wrestling more in the 90s. I was one of the only kids in school at that point watching wrestling. And then a few years later, it seemed like all the kids were watching wrestling in later ’90s.”

So was he a Bret guy or a Shawn guy? “I was a big fan of both of them. Uh, I’m a bigger fan of Bret Hart, but I’m also a fan of Shawn Michaels. I think they’re both great wrestlers.”

As Khan works with Martha Hart on Owen Hart merchandising and a tournament in his name, that answer may not be too surprising.
