During a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray critiqued the John Cena Classic announcement on this week’s WWE Raw, with John Cena on hand to announce new details regarding the tournament. Bully Ray thinks the John Cena Classic Championship feels like an inconsequential reward.

However, Bully Ray did express that he’s on board with it if the tournament is used as a way to have Cody Rhodes turn heel and attack John Cena. Below are some highlights (via WrestlingInc.com):

Bully Ray on How the Reward for Winning the Tournament Feels Inconsequential

“I’m not a huge fan of inconsequential rewards. This seems a little light to me, like you’re just going to win this championship. Now, OG King of the Ring, you were deemed the best wrestler of that tournament, right? You got a cape and a crown and a saber, you were King of the Ring. This feels similar… We’re fighting for this belt that is named after this guy with a picture of this guy on it. What are we fighting for? I get it, it’s entertainment, but what are we fighting for?”

On How the Tournament Should Play Out

“If this is all being done for Cody Rhodes to win the whole thing, only to be presented with… that beautiful John Cena belt, for Cody to crack John in the face. For Cody to turn heel, I’m on board, brother.”

The John Cena Classic takes place at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida on Dec. 14 . The show will stream live on Netflix on Dec. 14 as a special edition of Monday Night Raw.
