Update on Chris Jericho’s AEW Contract Status

Chris Jericho returned to AEW on last week’s episode of Dynamite, and a new report has details on his contract status. Jericho made his return on last week’s episode and is set to appear on tonight’s episode to address his return. Fightful Select has some updates on Jericho in their latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A.
The report confirms that Jericho has signed a new deal. It is noted that, as was previously noted, he had his contract extended due to his time off, but Sean Ross Sapp noted that he is “there for the foreseeable future.”
While this is not surprising at all, in response to a fan asking about how he was simply announced as “Jericho,” he is still going by his full name, and that is what he is listed by on the roster page.
Sapp noted that he is still working to get all the details on Jericho’s contract. Tony Khan noted in his appearance on Coach and Bro that Jericho was a free agent and “chose” AEW. It was said that, despite a common misconception, wrestlers are able to talk to other companies while under contract.
There is some level of restriction early on in deals, but by the time they get toward the end of the deals, it wouldn’t make legal sense to sue over such a thing. “Contract tampering” isn’t an actual thing; it matters in professional sports because of unions and player associations, but pro wrestling has none of that.
