WWE Acquires Rights and Trademark to WarGames From MLW
– WarGames belongs solely to WWE at last. The company has come to terms with MLW on a deal to acquire the rights and trademarks to the match, according to MLW. The site has confirmed the information with multiple sources.
Despite the match’s legacy with Jim Crockett productions and WCW, WWE never registered the trademark for the match. MLW jumped in and began using the name and concept in 2003 and trademarked WarGames in 2007. WHen WWE brought WarGames back for NXT in late 2017, they found out that MLW had the trademark. PWInsider reports that the company reached out to MLW late last year and worked out a deal to acquire the trademarks.
The deal will see MLW letting go of the concept and name moving forward, so don’t expect to see the promotion use WarGames again.
