Failure of Emma’s “Emmalina” Character Reportedly Led to Her WWE Release

November 4, 2017 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

As previously reported, Emma was recently released by the WWE. A recent appearance by former WWE writer James McKenna on The Sheet Podcast (via Sportskeeda) might shed more light on what ultimately led to Emma getting cut from the writer.

According to McKenna, the failed repackaging of Emma with the Emmalina gimmick is reportedly a big reason that ultimately led to her release. McKenna claimed that when he worked for WWE, Emma was apparently hard to work with. He claimed that Emma made it a habit of shooting down ideas that were presented to her by the creative team. This apparently became a problem for the creative team later on.

This might corroborate an earlier report from Sports Illustrated, which noted that Emma had “enemies” on the writing staff that contributed to her release. That was also made worse how she would be vocal about her WWE status on Twitter.

McKenna said that the failure of the Emmalina gimmick was the last straw, and the gimmick’s debut went so poorly that the whole character was scrapped. Emmalina was an idea created by Vince McMahon, and a lot of time was spent on it. However, McKenna says that Emma didn’t like the new character, which gave McMahon a bad impression of her. After the Emmalina gimmick was cancelled, it hurt Emma’s standing in the company in the eyes of McMahon.
