Details on How MJF Injured His Knee & Whether There is Heat on RUSH Within AEW

As reported previously, AEW World Champion Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) suffered an injury during this week’s episode of Dynamite. MJF defended his championship against RUSH in a No Countouts match to open this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Though he emerged victorious via submission, the Long Island native didn’t come out of the match unscathed. Beyond Wrestling later reported that MJF hyperextended his knee during the bout and would no longer compete at its June 5 show. Andrade El Idolo eventually replaced MJF at the event.
There has been speculation about how MJF injured his knee, with some believing that it occurred during the Tombstone spot on the barricade. However, Fightful Select is reporting that that was not the case.
According to the latest report, the injury happened when RUSH delivered a knee strike to the champion in the corner. The report cited sources as claiming that it was a “freak incident” and that there is no heat on RUSH whatsoever.
Despite the injury, Dave Meltzer reported in this week’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (WON) that Friedman is expected to compete at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door in San Jose, California, later this month. You can read more about that RIGHT HERE.
