David S. Goyer No Longer Directing Masters of the Universe
According to The Hollywood Reporter, David S. Goyer is no longer in talks to direct Sony’s Masters of the Universe. Goyer had been in talks since November but never officially agreed to direct. He will still remain as a writer and executive producer.
It’s believed that his schedule is the reason why he can’t commit, as he’s the executive producer of SyFy’s Krypton. He’s also working on an adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation trilogy as a miniseries. It’s also expected that the story of He-Man will be a big budget film and Goyer hasn’t directed a film since 2009’s The Unborn, which only had a budget of $16 million. Both Jon M. Chu and McG have also passed on the job.
Mattel, who created the toyline, will produce with Sony’s Matthew Milam, Escape Artists’ Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch, as well as Franklin Entertainment’s DeVon Franklin. The film will be released on December 18, 2019.
