Jose Aldo Has Reportedly Accepted Fight Offer Against Jeremy Stephens in June
According to a new report from Combate.com, former UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo and his camp have accepted a fight with top-ranked UFC featherweight fighter Jeremy Stephens. The fight would purportedly happen at a UFC Fight Night card in Singapore in June, which is UFC Fight Night 132.
Brazilian reporter Ana Hissa also wrote on her Twitter account that Aldo accepted the fight against Stephens. UFC officials have not yet confirmed the announcement as of yet. Previously, Aldo expressed interest in fighting Stephens at an upcoming UFC card in Rio de Janiero. Stephens wanted to face the former champion in Chicago in June. Now, it appears the fight might happen on more neutral territory.
Jose Aldo’s manager and head coach, Andre Pederneiras stated that the former UFC featherweight champion accepted the bout. The camp is now just waiting on confirmation for the other side and for a contract to be signed.
Stephens is currently ranked at No. 5 in the UFC featherweight rankings after his knockout win over Josh Emmett. Jose Aldo is currently ranked No. 2 after losing his last two fights against Max Holloway for the featherweight title.
Stephens is currently on a three-fight winning streak. If he does manage to beat Stephens, that could finally cement his status as a UFC title contender, which has previously eluded him for his entire Octagon career. Stephens has been fighting for the organization since 2007.
UFC Fight Night 132 is slated for June 23, 2018 in Singapore.
