Netflix Renews Locke & Key For Third Season Ahead of Season Two Premiere
Locke & Key won’t be finishing things up with its upcoming second season, as Netflix has already renewed the show for a third go. The streamer announced on Friday that the series adaptation of the Joe Hill horror comics will be back for a third season, while hyping up the second season to arrive in 2021.
Production on season two is expected to wrap this week in Toronto, with Deadline reporting that season three production will start right back up at the start of the year.
The series has been a hit for Netflix, with season one earning moderately good reviews and the show earning a season two renewal in March shortly after season one released.
The series centers on the Locke family, who have lost their dad to a horrific murder at the hands of a young student of his. They move to their ancestral home, known as the Keyhouse, which they discover is full of magical keys that may be connected to their father’s death. As the Locke children explore the different keys and their unique powers, a mysterious individual named Dodge comes into their lives — and will stop at nothing to steal the keys. Season two will see the stakes grow higher for the Locke siblings as they embrace their role as the new Keepers of the Keys.
“Carlton and Meredith have built an incredible world in Locke and Key and we’re excited to have the Lockes return for more in the third season,” said Brian Wright VP of Overall Deals for Netflix. “I’m delighted to expand our creative partnership with Meredith Averill, a talented creator with a keen eye for best-in-class horror and supernatural storytelling.”
“I’m incredibly grateful to have found a home at Netflix where I feel constantly supported, challenged and inspired. I look forward to continuing and expanding our relationship,” said co-showrunner Meredith Averill.
“We have some incredible adventures in store for the Locke family in season three, and could not be more excited to continue telling our story with our great partners at Netflix,” added Averill’s fellow showrunner Carlton Cuse.
