Some Independent Wrestlers Reportedly Already Under WWE ID-Related Contracts
WWE announced its WWE ID program yesterday, and a new report says some independent talent are already under contracts related to it. As reported, WWE announced the developmental program on Tuesday that will, per the press release, “support independent wrestling prospects and wrestling schools.” Several schools including Cody Rhodes’ Nightmare Academy Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling and Seth Rollins’ Black and Brave Academy have been named as WWE ID schools.
According to Brandon Thurston at POST Wrestling, several independent wrestlers are already under WWE contracts related to the WWE ID program. It was not specified which talents were under contract, but the report notes that wrestlers under such contracts are able to continue working indy shows and a source clarified that there aren’t any current restrictions on where contracted independent talent can work, nor whether they can lose matches.
In addition, the report notes that no financial support is being provided to the schools at this time.
