The long-in-development Highlander reboot is finally set to go in front of the cameras later this year, according to director Chad Stahelski. Stahelski is set to direct the reboot of the sword-swinging modern dark fantasy, and he told Collider while promoting the new John Wick documentary Wick Is Pain that the film is looking at a September start to production.
“If everything works out in the next 24 hours, we’ll be shooting sometime in September,” Stahelski said. “And in 2027 or 2028, you’ll be watching Highlander.”
The film has been in development hell for years, with the latest version written by Michael Finch who co-wrote John Wick: Chapter 4. Henry Cavill will play the titular immortal Connor MacLeod, who was played by Christopher Lambert in the original films. The first film released in 1986 and, while not successful at the box office, became a cult classic and spawned an entire franchise.
