Jim Johnston Says WWE’s Themes Feel ‘Interchangable’ Now, Talks Storyline Criticisms

Jim Johnston offered a little more detail on how he feels WWE’s current theme songs miss the mark in a recent interview. The former composer for the company has been critical in recent years over the entrance music WWE creates now, noting that it doesn’t help create stars like it used to and how it “just sounds like noise” to him.

Johnston was asked about the matter during his appearance on Ropes N Riffs. He noted that while there are exceptions, it doesn’t often feel to him like theme songs are strongly tied to wrestlers’ identities. He also added that he has heard people complain about how storylines change too fast and aren’t as intense as they used to be. You can see the highlights below (per Wrestling Inc):

On His Issues With WWE’s Music:

“I mean, the themes used to really be tied to this human being and now it’s coincidentally music that plays for the most part. There are exceptions of course, but it’s music that coincidentally plays when wrestlers walk out to the ring and it’s kind of interchangeable.”

On Criticism Of the Storylines:

“The storylines don’t seem intense and I’ve heard from a lot of people that their biggest criticism is that storylines come out of nowhere and change too fast. Like suddenly these two guys hate each other but we’re supposed to be really jacked up about that they hate each other except we have absolutely no idea why they hate each other.”
