The Ultimate Fighter 27: Episode Eleven
INTRODUCTION: Season 27 of the Ultimate Fighter is here. This season will feature undefeated featherweights and lightweights, with current UFC Heavyweight Champion Stipe Miocic against current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Daniel Cormier serving as the coaches ahead of their upcoming fight. There will be a lightweight and a featherweight winner. Last week, Brad Katona defeated Bryce Mitchell via RD3 submission. This week, we get Allan Zuniga (13-0, 1-0 TUF) vs. Joe Giannetti (6-0, 1-0 TUF)
– We see Giannetti getting in some training. Cornier is really high on him and thinks the semifinal match up favors Giannetti due to his superior grappling. Cormier tell this to Giannetti and tells him to focus on mental preparation. Team Cormier talks about the coach’s challenge with his team and says if he wins, he’ll match their $1500 prize.
– They arrive at the hockey rink and they will take turns as shooter & goalie, facing off against each other. The winning coach gets $10,000 and his team members get $1500. Cormier will shoot on Miocic first, and each man get 10 shots. Cormier says he can’t skate and when he does with his kids, he uses an aid to not fall. Miocic can skate solidly, while Cormier glides backwards and falls several times. Cormier doesn’t want to let his team down. Cormier shoots first, and he makes 4 goals on 10 shots while falling down a lot. Time for Miocic to shoot, Cormier is still having difficulty staying on his feet. Miocic makes his first three shots. Cormier blocks the next five; DRAMA. Down to the last shot and Miocic misses and do you believe in miracles? Cormier wins! Cormier wins! Cormier wins! Cormier is thrilled and makes good, giving his team the extra cash.
– We now see Zuniga training. He plans to pressure with strikes and frustrate Giannetti. At the house, Giannetti talks about a friend and fellow fighter who died young, it really hurt him emotionally. His team makes a banner in tribute to his friend.
– Cormier arrives at the house with an Xbox to play the UFC 3 game with the guys. He has a trophy and sets up a tournament. Joe Giannetti & Luis Pena were the finals and Pena won.
– WEIGH-INS: Zuniga (155), Giannetti (156).
– We get the usual pre-fight warm-ups.
LIGHTWEIGHT SEMIFINAL: Allan Zuniga (13-0, 1-0 TUF) vs. Joe Giannetti (6-0, 1-0 TUF) ROUND ONE: Zuniga has the experience advantage, while Giannetti is younger and will enjoy a 4-inch reach advantage. They come out and trade right away. Both mix in kicks and Giannetti starts firing away with knee strikes. We get a break as Giannetti was caught low. Back to action as Giannetti starts to use his reach and backs off Zuniga. Giannetti now lands body kicks and checks Zuniga’s kicks. Zuniga gets wild and Giannetti starts to land quality strikes and kicks. Giannetti connects with another good knee strike and Zuniga gets time as he got caught low. Back to action as both fire away with Giannetti landing more and continuing to back off Zuniga. Zuniga shoots, Giannetti counters into a front choke and Zuniga is trapped and has to tap. – Next week: The final semifinal with Jay Cucciniello (8-0, 0-1 TUF) vs. Tyler Diamond (9-0, 1-0 TUF); Cormier brings in a chef to cook a big old final meal for his team.
