The Association of Boxing Commissions today has added four new weight classes to the unified rules of MMA. MMAjunkie reports that the commission voted unanimously to add the following classes, bumping the total number of recognized divisions to thirteen:

* 165 pounds (super lightweight)
* 175 pounds (super welterweight)
* 195 pounds (super middleweight)
* 225 pounds (cruiserweight)

Promoters are not required to use the weight divisions; ABC rules and regulations committee chairperson Sean Wheelock told the site that the devisions are “absolutely not” meant to dilute the talent pool and organize MMA into more of like that of boxing. The hope is that the additional divisions will curb the temptations of fighters to cut too much weight to fit into the current divisions.
