Alan Patrick Comments On His First Loss From UFC Fight Night 69
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Alan Patrick (12-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) spoke about his UFC Fight Night 69 TKO loss to Mairbek Taisumov. He will look to rebound tomorrow night at UFC Fight Night 85, where he meets Damien Brown (15-8 MMA, 0-0 UFC). The card airs on FOX Sports 1 after preliminary fights on UFC Fight Pass from the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
On how the loss affected him: “I won’t say the loss didn’t affect me. It would affect anyone. I’ve matured a lot from it. I was able to pinpoint my errors. I got back to training. I’m stronger and more focused now. In this sport, someone wins, someone loses. There’s no eternal invincibility. Everyone loses eventually. The delay is due to my preparations. I have to take things seriously since I am in the biggest promotion in the world. I have to be ready and in the best shape possible. Also, family requires a good deal of my time.”
On if he thinks he’ll be terminated with a second loss: “I don’t see it that way. I just renewed my contract. This is a game that the media invented. If you lose one or two in a row, it doesn’t have to mean you have a rope around your neck. If you’re someone who promotes well, meets your obligations, and fights well, you’ll stick around. If only wins and losses mattered, Diego Sanchez wouldn’t be in the UFC anymore. Or Frank Mir, for that matter. Some fighters may be on a losing streak, but they have a good record overall, and they sell pay-per-views. They’re a known, money-generating asset for the company. So wins and losses alone aren’t what’s most important.”
