MMAjunkie spoke to MMA fighter Alexandre Almeida ahead of his upcoming WSOF 24 preliminary card bout against Saul Ameida. The fight is set for later today. Below are some highlights from the interview.

Almeida on what led to his loss to Renato Carneiro: “Just the week before I had faced five opponents in an Abu Dhabi tryout competition. I ended losing to a guy I knew I would normally be able to defeat quickly. After that fight, I went on a long win streak.”

Almeida on wanting a rematch against Carneiro: “I asked Renato for a rematch several times, but it never happened. On the first rematch attempt, he got hurt on fight week. We scheduled it again, after I won the Jungle Fight belt. That time, I was the one who got hurt. I hurt my hand.”

On ending up in WSOF: “I couldn’t wait any longer. Now I’m in WSOF. Let’s see what happens. I’d like to be the champion in my weight class and then head to the UFC.”

His thoughts on Saul Ameida: “I think his game is advantageous to me. If he takes me to the ground, he’ll be submitted. I didn’t see anything impressive. I am very confident. I’ll be the champion. I’m doing this to support my family. I’ll put a beating on him.”

Almeida on his goal for the fight: “I’ll make sure I earn every penny I’m paid. I’ll have the best fights, not only in my weight class, but in the entire promotion. I’m beating anyone they put in front of me, including the champion. I’ll gladly take that fight. I’m going to own this weight class.”
