Boxing Legend, Grill Spokesperson George Foreman Passes Away At 76

The Hollywood Reporter brings word that boxing legend George Foreman, who was also the spokesperson for the George Foreman grill, has passed away at the age of 76.

In a post on Instagram , Foreman’s family shared a statement on his passing. It reads: “Our hearts are broken. With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr. who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. A devout preacher, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grand and great grandfather, he lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose.

A humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, He was deeply respected — a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name— for his family.

We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.

In a post on Twitter, fellow boxing icon Mike Tyson wrote: “Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.

Foreman was also an Olympic gold medalist, winning in the Mexico City Summer Games in 1968, when he was only 19. He defeated Michael Moorer and Joe Frazier to win his boxing championships, but also fought Muhammad Ali, Jose Roman and Ken Norton. He retired in 1977 after a loss to Jimmy Young. In 1994, he endorsed his famous grill, which was electric, portable and very successful.

Foreman is survived by 11 children (he had 12 overall), including five sons all named George, and wife Mary Joan Martelly.
