Bruna Vargas Hopes Bellator 159 Is The Start Of Something Big
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Bruna Vargas (2-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) spoke about her flyweight fight tonight at Bellator 159 against Emily Ducote (2-1 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). The event happens at the Kansas Star Arena in Mulvane, Kansas. Here are highlights:
On getting more fights: “Hopefully now I’ll be able to fight much more frequently. Bellator is creating a strong flyweight category, even though I’m usually a strawweight. So for now, I plan to remain as a flyweight, and I believe that soon enough there will be a belt for us to fight for.”
On why she was out for so long: “I was given the chance to sign with XFC. After signing, I kept waiting for them to schedule me. I waited for over a year. Then, earlier this year, the chance came up to sign with Bellator. So I rescinded my contract with XFC and signed up with Bellator, which is a much bigger opportunity.”
On preparing for tonight’s fight: “We studied my opponent pretty well. She’s very complete. She comes from wrestling, but is a good striker. So we didn’t focus on just one area. We’re working so I can feel comfortable no matter what she brings. I’ve been training hard. I believe I’ll win by knockout or submission. I feel ready for anything.”
