Speaking to reporters at the post-fight media scrum after UFC Fight Night 89 (via MMAjunkie), UFC fighter Colby Covington discussed his win on the fight card. He beat Jonathan Meunier by submission at the event. Below are some highlights.

Covington on wanting another fight soon: “I want to be back in there as soon as possible. I’m healthy. Last fight, I went into it with a fractured rib and three torn cartilage. I want to show how much of a fluke my last fight was. Warlley Alves is not that good of a fighter, and I want to show in the future I’m a 10-times better fighter than him.”

On changing opponents: “With Alex Garcia (his original opponent), I was just going to stand and trade, I wasn’t going to do any wrestling. But with a dangerous guy like Jonathan Meunier, … he’s got long range, he’s a good kicker, a good knee-er, he has good elbows. I had to take my time, be patient, and look for the finish. I couldn’t find any footage (on Meunier). I had Mike Brown looking, and he found some amateur kickboxing matches. We were kind of in the dark with what he was going to bring to the table. We knew he was a tall long striker, so we prepared for it the best that we could.”

Covington on wanting a finish: “We came into this fight and we knew we wanted a finish. After the first two rounds, we knew we broke him down, what we wanted to do. Maybe it wasn’t the most exciting two rounds, but we knew we were going to come and bang in the third. I was ready to throw big punches, and I knew he was tired. I was coming in for the finish, and that’s what we did.”
