It looks like Tony Ferguson will be the next challenger for the UFC lightweight title after Dustin Poirier. Dana White told LV Sports Biz (per MMA Weekly that Ferguson will likely be next in line once Khabib Nurmagomedov faces Poirier at UFC 242.

“Khabib is fighting Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi in September,” White said. “Then I don’t know, we’ll see. Tony Ferguson just came off a great win over Cowboy Cerrone, and I’m assuming he’s next.”

Ferguson was set to face Nurmagomedov at UFC 223 to unify the titles, but had to pull out due to an injury. Nurmagomedov beat Al Iaquinta to become the undisputed lightweight champion.

White said that Conor McGregor is not completely out of the mix, saying, “We’ll see what happens with Conor, what Conor wants to do. Conor is super rich. It’s hard to get guys to fight when they’re super rich. Conor McGregor has been amazing for the company, the sport, introducing the sport to a lot of Europeans who didn’t otherwise watch the sport back then. He’s a kid that loves to fight, but he’s also a kid with a lot of other options.”
