Jacare Souza Tests Positive For COVID-19, UFC 249 Bout With Uriah Hall Cancelled

Jacare Souza’s fight with Uriah Hall this weekend at UFC 249 is off after Souza tested positive for COVID-19. ESPN reports that Souza, who was looking to pick up his first win since UFC 230, tested positive for coronavirus and thus the fight has been scratched.

Souza reportedly arrived in Jacksonville for the event on Wednesday and informed officials that a family member had tested positive for the virus. Souza himself was asymptomatic. He was isolated and tested, with the test coming back positive today.

The site notes that the event will move forward as scheduled after the UFC confereed with Florida athletic officials, who said the fights can go on as scheduled as the system of precautions worked.

UFC 249 takes place at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville tomorrow, and 411 will have live coverage of the show.
