Hello everyone and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC on ESPN+ 101, I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be your host for the event. The UFC is back in France for this one, hence the earlier start time, and they’ve brought a slightly overstuffed card of 14 fights but several of them are quality offerings. The main event has action written all over it when top lightweights Renato Moicano and Benoit Saint Denis square up, both men have a well earned reputation for exciting fights and plenty of violence so I expect a good bout there. In the co-main event two top middleweights battle for position, Nassourdine Imavov and Brendan Allen might not crown the next title challenger but the winner will be very close to the title picture once it gains a little bit of clarity. Joanderson Brito is usually a fun fighter, Morgan Charriere is getting a bit of a showcase, and Matt Frevola is another fighter with a solid reputation for at least enjoyable fights. The prelims aren’t quite as compelling, but even then Oumar Sy is a prospect the UFC is looking to develop, Ludovit Klein and Roosevelt Roberts could be run, and Vince Morales earned his way back into the UFC and him taking on Taylor Lapilus is a decently relevant bantamweight fight. So while the whole card has some issues there’s more than enough high points to have some optimism. Now let’s just hope the event delivers.
UFC on ESPN+ 101 comes to us from Accor Arena in Paris, France. John Gooden, Michael Bisping, and Paul Felder will be on the call and that’s a fairly reliable trio. Charly Arnolt will be our roving reporter as well. We’ll be in the bigger cage set up since we’re not in the warehouse, and while I’m not aware of any quirks of the rules in France I will keep you updated if anything comes to my attention on that front.
Bolaji Oki is on a nine fight winning streak including a win in his UFC debut back in February, now he’s hoping to extend that to double digits here and prove he’s a prospect of note. Chris Duncan has gone 2-1 in the UFC but did suffer a loss in his most recent fight, he’s trying to avoid his first losing streak. The odds like Oki at -155 to +130 for Duncan.

The First Round Finish Club thanks Mr. Duncan for his work today. Mic time for Duncan, he talks about starting this whole thing in 2014 when he lost his mother and dedicates the win to her. To close he puts over his team and jokingly quotes Dustin Poirier’s “don’t be silly, jump the gilly” line.

Ailin Perez has gone 3-1 in the UFC and is 3-0 at bantamweight, she did miss weight for this fight though and will need a win to smooth that over as well as defend her top ranking. Daria Zhelenzniakova has won her last two fights including her UFC debut back in March, she’s getting a relatively early crack at ranked opposition here but a win would easily be the biggest of her career thus far. Despite the weight miss the odds are with Perez at -230 while +190 on Zheleznyakova has to tempt some bettors out there.

William Gomis is on an impressive 11 fight winning streak including three wins in the UFC, he’s been out of action for a little over a year though with three different fights falling out. Gomis is looking to continue his winning ways and prove he might be a big deal at featherweight. Joanderson Brito has gone 5-1 in the UFC and is on a fight fight winning streak with all of those being finishes, a further win here would set him up for a bigger opportunity next. SCORECARD: 10-9 Gomis, 29-28 Brito overall but with the judging tonight could go either way
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – William Gomis via split decision (28-29, 29-28 x2)
Yeah that tracks, no issues with 29-28 either way. Mic time for Gomis, he believed in himself and knew he was an underdog but told everyone to bet their house on him and they should have listened. Asked about the future he puts over his opponent, thanks his team for their work, and says he’d like to fight Lopez next. Not sure which one he means but he had a name ready, if he meant Diego Lopes there’s almost no chance of him jumping up to the third ranked guy in the weight class.
Nassourdine Imavov hasn’t lost at middleweight since 2021 and most recently he stopped Jared Cannonier back in June, now he’s looking to keep a three fight unbeaten streak growing and prove he’s ready to move into the title picture. Brendan Allen is on a seven fight winning streak, most recently winning a close split decision over Chris Curtis which I kind of thought he lost but if he could get to eight in a row here it should put him into the title picture as well. The odds are with Imavov at -205 while that +170 comeback on Allen is a tasty looking bet.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Imavov, 29-28 Imavov overall
OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Nassourdine Imavov via unanimous decision (29-28 x3)
Decent little fight, Imavov gets an interview and he thanks the crowd for their support and admits he lost the first round but was confident he could take the other two. He puts over Allen’s chin as being better than he thought. Asked what’s next he runs down his activity and success recently to say he thinks he’s earned a title shot. It’s a tough sell at the moment given some of the moving parts ahead of him but he should be in a good overall position.
Renato Moicano has only lost at lightweight to Rafael Fiziev and Rafael dos Anjos, he’s on a three fight winning streak right now and a win here would likely set him up to face some top ten opponents going forward. Benoit Saint Denis has only lost at lightweight to Dustin Poirier, most recently he did fall to Poirier and lost a five fight winning streak. Saint Denis is looking to avoid his first ever losing streak and prove he’s still a rising contender in the stacked lightweight division. OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Renato Moicano via TKO, doctor stoppage, at 5:00 of Round 2
Mic time for Moicano, which is usually fun, he teases the crowd about being silent after the ending. He says he wanted to talk shit about France but a few of the beautiful places here changed his mind, so he just talks shit about the French government and how they’ve handled things recently. He gets some support for that. He insults the French government and globalists, and offers some reading suggestions then puts over the French and wants easy money like Dan Hooker or Paddy Pimblett.
Saint Denis gets an interview as well, he thanks the crowd and admits he took too much damage early then promises to come back stronger next time.
