Matt Mitrione Comments on His Bellator 157 Knockout Win

Speaking at the post-fight press conference after Bellator 157 (via MMAjunkie), Matt Mitrione discussed his knockout win over Carl Seumanutafa. Below are some highlights.

Mitrione on his learning experience: “It was a learning experience – the second time I’ve ever been dropped. I’m glad I got to show my mettle, get in there and scramble a little bit, and get on top and throw a bomb and land it. It was great. It was cool.”

Scott Coker on maybe announcing Mitrione vs. James Thompson too quickly: “I think that maybe we jumped the gun a little bit. We went and talked to Matt and said, ‘Hey, are you OK?’ and he felt that he was fine. But along with the other fighters that fight on these cards, we’re going to take them through the proper medical tests. The commission will be getting involved, and we’ll see what their position is and make a determination on what happens from here.”

Mitrione on how the fight went: “I passed all my medicals, my concussion protocols – I’m ready to get in there and scrap in three weeks. I remember the entire fight. I’ve had three or four or five fights where I haven’t gotten touched, and I still don’t remember what was going on because of the adrenaline of the moment. You’re not thinking clearly. You’re not in the mindset to remember details and minutiae. I understand getting dropped isn’t minutiae, but it’s just a moment, is all it is. It’s a two-second moment in however long this fight was.”
