Neil Magny Talks About The Weird Split Decision With Erick Silva

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Neil Magny (16-4 MMA, 9-3 UFC) spoke about his split decision win over Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 74. Here are highlights:

On the decision win: “I was worried for a second. I remember seeing my coaches’ eyes get big when they were discussing it in the corner. I was like, ‘Wait a minute, what happened, what’s going on?’ Once they read the first card, I was like, ‘That’s kind of weird, but let’s see how it plays out.’ Whenever you leave it to the judges’ hands, that’s the risk you take, so I just had to wait and see what happens.”

On continuing to take last minute fights: “It’s just one of those things where every opportunity I get to step in the cage is a blessing and I want to take advantage of it. There’s going to reach a day where I want to fight and I’m not able to. So if I’m young and I’m healthy and those opportunities become available I’m going to make the best of it.”

On how big this win is: “This win was huge; on a four-day camp you can’t much better physically, but mentally I was able to put that aside and that’s something I lost track of in my last fight. I was at the point where I was at a seven-fight winning streak and I was just worried about so many other things I couldn’t control. To put all that stuff aside and just focus on the fight shows my maturity in just a short period of time.”
