Ray Sefo Shares Update on Jake Shields’ Status With WSOF

MMAjunkie spoke to WSOF MMA President Ray Sefo after WSOF 30, who discussed what’s next for Jon Fitch after he won the title at the event. The next likely contender for Fitch would be Jake Shields, but Shields is currently in a contract dispute with WSOF. Below are some highlights from the interview.

Sefo stated on the status with Jake Shields: “Obviously we’ve got to sit down. I had a really good talk with Shields a while back, four or five weeks ago now. Shields is, to me, the No. 1 contender right now. That’s the fight that makes most sense. It’s a fight that’s been brewing for a long time, but it’s never happened. I’m looking forward to it happening. When? I’m not sure exactly. We’ve got to sit down with Fitch and see where he’s at now – the fight just got done. But in terms of who’s next, Jake Shields is next for sure.”

WSOF Carlos Silva added: “That’s something that Ray and the team are going to work on. Jake and Ray have been talking. Congratulations to Fitch – he’s got our new belt on. I think he looks great with it, and I think that’s the fight everyone wants to see. So let’s see if Ray and everyone can sort it out.”
