UFC bantamweight Irwin Rivera has been charged with two counts of attempted murder, according to a new report. ESPN reports that Rivera was arrested and booked on Thursday by the Boynton Beach Police Department on the two counts, with the BBPD’s spokesperson confirming that Rivera is accused of stabbing his two sisters.

According to the report, police officers were called to a residence where they found two women with multiple stab wounds. The younger, aged 22, had stab wounds in her back, head and arm while the older, who is 33, had wounds in her back, face, arms and hands. They were rushed to the hospital and one told police that they were staying with Rivera, who is their brother. She said they awoke to Rivera repeatedly stabbing them with a knife.

The fighter fled the scene and when police made contact with him in the morning he said, “I killed my sisters.” He allegedly told police that he stabbed them with a “brass knuckle knife,” claiming that he did it because a “higher power” told him it was his purpose.

Rivera fought for the UFC last in September, and Zuffa LLC said the following in a statement:

“UFC is aware of the recent incident involving Irwin Rivera and subsequently received information from his management that he has been exhibiting behavior consistent with mental health issues. The allegations are extremely troubling and the organization is currently gathering additional information. The investigation is ongoing and any potential next steps including disciplinary action or medical attention will be determined upon the conclusion. Furthermore, UFC has informed Rivera’s management that he will not be offered a bout at this time.”
