10 Cloverfield Lane Director to Helm Next Predator Film
20th Century Studios is moving ahead with a new film in the Predator franchise, tapping 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg to helm the movie. Deadline reports that Trachtenberg is set to direct the new film in the franchise, which will be the fifth and the first since 2018’s critical and commercial disappointment The Predator.
Plot details for the new film aren’t yet known. However, the site reports that the new film will not follow up on the plot threads of The Predator. The new film will be written by Patrick Aison (Jack Ryan, Wayward Pines) with John Davis, who has produced every film in the franchise, back on board in that capacity.
The 2018 film was directed by Shane Black, who co-wrote it with Fred Dekker, and starred Boyd Holbrook, Yvonne Strahovski, Trevante Rhodes, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Olivia Munn, Sterling K. Brown, and Thomas Jane. It was panned by critics and while it was the highest-grossing film in the franchise to date at $160.5 million worldwide, that was against a much higher budget than previous entries at $88 million.
