Golden Globes Results: Lady Bird, Three Billboards, Big Little Lies Win Big

January 7, 2018 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Lady Bird and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri were the big film winners at the 75th annual Golden Globes on Sunday. The two films picked up the awards for Best Comedy or Musical and Best Drama, respectively, to earn some serious momentum as time draws closer to the Academy Awards.

Three Billboards also tied HBO’s Big Little Lies for most wins at the ceremony with four. Billboards also picked up wins for Best Supporting Actor (Sam Rockwell), Best Screenplay (Martin McDonagh) and Best Actress in a Drama (Frances McDormand). That latter win sets up a very possible showdown with Saoirse Ronan at the Oscars. Ronan won Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical for Lady Bird in the second set of dueling wins between the two films. Other big film wins went to Guillermo Del Toro for Best Director for The Shape of Water, Coco for Best Animated Film and Gary Oldman for Best Actor in a Drama for Darkest Hour. Oldman may well be facing off with James Franco at the Academy Awards; Frano won Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for The Disaster Artist.

On the TV side, Big Little Lies was the clear winner with awards for Best Limited Series/TV Film, Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series/TV Film (Laura Dern), Best Actress in a Limited Series/TV Film (Nicole Kidman) and Best Supporting Actor (Alexander Skarsgård). Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel won Best Comedy Series and Best Actress in a Comedy for Rachel Brosnahan, while Azia Ansari got the surprise win for Best Actor in a Comedy for Netflix’s Master of None.

On the drama side, The Handmaid’s Tale won Best Drama and Best Actress in a Drama for Elisabeth Moss. Sterling K. Brown took home Best Actor in a Drama for This Is Us.
