Alex Kurtzman has extended his deal with CBS and is developing new Star Trek series, including one reportedly with Captain Picard. EW reports that Kurtzman has signed a five-year deal with CBS Television Studios, which includes expanding the Star Trek franchise for television. THR reports that there are three different Star Trek concepts in development, including one that may see Patrick Stewart reprise his role as Picard. The outlet does note, though, that a deal is not closely completed and may not happen.

“CBS has also allowed us the great pleasure of reintroducing the world of Star Trek audiences new and old, and we are very excited to keep working alongside them to expand that world,” Kurtzman said in a statement.

Kurtzman was promoted to showrunner for season two of Star Trek: Discovery earlier this month after CBS cut ties with showrunners Aaron Harberts and Gretchen Berg over administrative concerns.
