American Horror Story’s Frances Conroy In Talks to Join Joker
Todd Philips’ Joker origin film is beefing up its cast quickly. Frances Conroy (American Horror Story) is in talks to play the title character’s mother in the film, according to The Wrap. Warner Bros. originally sought Frances McDormand to play the role, but she passed on it.
Conroy is the latest to join the film after Zazie Beets (Deadpool 2, Atlanta) and Robert Deniro entered negotiations to co-star in the film. Joaquin Phoenix will play the Clown Prince of Crime in the film, which is loosely based on Alan Moore’s iconic The Killing Joke story arc.
Conroy previously lent her voice to the DC Animated Universe films All Star Superman and Superman: Unbound as Martha Kent, and played Halle Berry’s mentor in Catwoman.
Joker is set to begin filming in September, with a release date set for October 4th, 2019.
