According to The Hollywood Reporter, Once Upon A Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are working on a Beauty and the Beast prequel series for Disney+ that will focus on Gaston and LeFou. Stars Josh Gad and Luke Evans will both return for the limited series. It will be a six-episode musical, with Alan Menken in talks to return.

The project will take place long before the 2017 film and will also expand the universe of the film. No other stars are currently attached, including Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. Sources say it’s possible they could appear for a guest appearance. Kitsis and Horowitz will be the showrunners and scriptwriters along with Gad. All three will executive produce with Evans.

The prequel started after Kitsis and Horowitz worked with Gad on the now-cancelled Muppets Live Another Day series for Disney+. After they left the project, they started talking about this series.
