Blumhouse’s Firestarter Re-Adaptation Gets R Rating

The re-adaptation of Stephen King’s Firestarter has received its expected R rating. The MPPA has issued an R rating for the Blumhouse take on the classic pyrokinetic novel, making the reveal today.

The film, which began production last year, is rated R for “violent content.” The film is directed by Keith Thomas, who directed last year’s horror film The Vigil, and stars Ryan Kiera Armstrong as Charlie, Zac Efron as Charlie’s father Andy, Sydney Lemmon as Charlie’s mother Vicky, Michael Greyeyes as the assassin Rainbird, and Gloria Reuben.

The film does not yet have a release date. It will follow the plot of the book, in which a young man must protect his daughter after she develops pyrokinesis and is hunted by a secret government agency known as The Shop that intends to capture and control her.

The book was previously adapted into a film in 1984 starring Drew Barrymore and David Keith.
